ROCHON GARDENS & GREENHOUSES

As a special treat for our customers this season, Gerry and Diane have planted a new variety of strawberry.  Keep your fingers crossed folks!  If the weather is favorable, Rochon Gardens will have sweet, juicy berries up to 3 weeks early.

You may find Diane and her workers on the Byward market both on the corner of Byward and York in front of
Irving Rivers Store and a little further down on Byward in front of Lapointe Fish Market.
Their stands are usually open  7 days a week from Mother’s Day weekend until mid-November

Berchmans and Colombe Rochon began to live their dream in 1956 when they purchased  100 acres in Edwards, which is approximately 25km south-east of Ottawa.  In 1990 Bert and Colombe retired while their son Gerry and his wife Diane took over the farm.  Over the last decade and a half, they have implemented many improvements and new technology and  Rochon Gardens and Greenhouses has grown by leaps and bounds and today is made up of 12 greenhouses, approximately 70 acres of produce as well as a 45 acre pick-your-own berry farm which is located on Victoria Street, (County Rd. 6) about 5km east of Metcalfe, just past York’s Corners Rd.
.  Before long you can satisfy your sweet tooth with succulent cantaloupe and red, pink, yellow and orange watermelon.  It seems that every week something new is being added to the stands and you can soon find yellow and green beans, sweet spanish onions, field tomatoes, red, yellow and orange cherry tomatoes, red and white potatoes, and finally leeks, brussel sprouts  and many varieties of squash.  Grown specifically for the Metcalfe Farmers’ Market you will also find carrots, cabbage and turnips.
